Those Funny Numbers

What those cryptic little numbers in parentheses at the end of descriptions for some books (and magazines, comic books, etc., ...) do is tell you how big the publication is. First comes a letter for the size of the paper, or at least close to it:

A4 -- A4 size, about 8 1/4 by 11 1/2
A5 -- A5 size, about 5 3/4 by 8 1/4
A6 -- A6 size, about 4 by 6
D -- Digest, 5 1/2 by 8 1/2
HL -- Half Legal, 7 by 8 1/2 or 4 1/4 by 14
K -- Kafo, 4 1/2 by 7
N -- Numi, 6 by 9
O -- Oversized, larger than tabloid or odd-sized
Q -- Quarto, 8 by 10
S -- Standard, 8 1/2 by 11
T -- Tabloid, usually 11 by 14

Next comes a number, which is the number of pages. Last there may be a suffix: "i" for illustrations, "x" for index.

Note: If ordering publications with an asterisk (*)in front of its price with non-asterisked items (records, CDs, shirts, etc.,...), no additional postage is required. If your entire order consist of one asterisk (*)item please add $1.00 for postage.

Yes, these codes are kind of a pain in the ass, but we wrote most of the descriptions back when our catalog had to fit on a certain number of printed pages. Sorry.
